Social Media

I am working on quite a few social media projects that are just getting started.  There seems to be a lot of information about this subject but I am approaching it from a practical get something done approach.

It is a bit overwhelming all of the possible avenues and approaches you can take.  I read quite a bit about establishing a social media plan.  I am in favor of that for sure.  However, there comes a time when you need to JUMP in and just DO IT

One of my very favorite clients met with me recently.  She was wanting to get into the social media area but like so many of us just never found the time.  We met over coffee and decided to take a short-term approach.  The first task I gave her was to start accepting friend requests from Facebook.  This is not that simple to someone just starting.  So that’s what she did and now she is posting pictures on her facebook and all kinds of great things.  Don’t feel bad if you are not on the web every day posting though.  I personally like to know what is going on in your life but like you I am busy.

Another cool project involves blogs. We are starting a new blog for a business that sells dietary supplements.  Their current website was developed using WordPress – now we are moving into the world of blogs.  At this point we are just setting up a separate blog but we could as we get more comfortable incorporate the blogs in the website.  Will have to see about that.

Good luck in your social media and  start simple and grow your efforts.

Busy Testing a New Website for EWGA

The Kansas City Chapter of EWGA is participating in the testing of a new website for our chapter.  We are very excited about the new technology and think our members will love it.

Also, time for training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs.  Looking forward to a great season at the NEW ARROWHEAD.  Had an opportunity to see the stadium and enjoy the great soccer game last weekend.  Those Wizards are great!

Time to get out of that cubicle!

I recently had some great advice given to me by a friend!  Her suggestion was that I leave my comfortable world of the cubicle and sitting in front of the computer monitor/laptop and live the lives of my clients.  I took her advice and am glad I did.

Although it was not as easy as I thought I landed a job working for a VERY successful retail business as a sales associate.  This might seem like an easy job – it is not.  I guess the first thing I have learned is plain ole customer service.  Running cash register is not as easy as it looks with all of the credit cards, gift cards, etc.   But the big learning is that old fashioned talking to the customers.

If you think you have good customer facing skills try  checking people out that are in a hurry!  They come in all shapes and sizes and you will improve your people skills if you survive.

The other real big advantage is working for a company that understands that customers are price sensitive today.  These customers are from all economic levels.  They want a good product for a good price.  Not an unreasonable expectation!  I find myself thinking about this a lot these days.  The question is “Am I providing the same product/service to my customers?”.

So I would encourage everyone to get out of the comfort zone and try something different.  You might be really surprised at what you learn – I know I have.
